GoldKing Palmetto Bayou Oil Spill; Houma

Initial Notification: On April 16, 2026 U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Morgan City received a report of an old, 200-gallon spill of crude oil into Plumb Bayou from the GoldKing Palmetto Bayou Facility. The crude oil and produced water were spilled into a natural collection area surrounding the orphaned facility. GoldKing is bankrupt and not able to respond. USCG hired an oil spill response organization (OSRO) to conduct cleanup. State agencies (Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator's Office, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, Louisiana Department of Natural Resources) have been notified.
