Initial Notification: Shortly before 9am on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 50+ containers fell from the vessel Mississippi while it was berthed at the Pier G container terminal in the Port of Long Beach. No persons were injured and no oil discharge of hazardous materials has been reported. The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) has established a security zone around the vessel. On Sept. 11, the USCG contacted the NOAA Scientific Support Coordinator to request regular updates on weather and tides to support on-going salvage efforts.
