Diesel Spill into Padden Creek; Bellingham, Washington

Initial Notification: On Wednesday August 6, 2025, the NOAA Scientific Support Coordinator (SSC) was notified by Washington State Depart of Ecology (WAECY) of a diesel spill into Padden Creek in Bellingham, Washington. WAECY estimates that 344 gallons were spilled. WAECY responders deployed sorbent pads and placed oil booms at the mouth of the creek. WAECY and the Lummi Nation are surveying the creek for impacts. NOAA was asked to review the Resources at Risk and notify Endangered Species Act and Essential Fish Habitat personnel.
