Initial Notification: The vessel was carrying 52,000 tons of petroleum coke. The SSC initially provided a brief hazard characterization of the cargo to aid the USCG responders in assessing the potential environmental concerns. On 5 September, the MSO Port Arthur requested an oil spill trajectory to further assess potential environmental concerns. This operation was completed by 9 September. NOAA was also asked to provide a side-scan sonar survey given that a team was already in the area.
