Initial Notification: Oil was released during drilling operations in the Gulf of Mexico. The slick, or sheen, was reported as not recoverable. Dispersants were considered by the RP. The observed slick is not expected to persist long enough to threaten near shore or shoreline natural recourses. The source, the bore hole, was initially secured using drilling mud. An overflight on the morning of 19 August reported only a small amount of residual.
