M/V Michipicoten Hull Fracture in Lake Superior

Initial Notification: On June 8, 2024, the USCG Sector Norther Great Lakes notified the NOAA SSC that the M/V Michipicoten, a 690' bulk carrier loaded with taconite, experienced substantial hull damage at approximately 0430 Central, at 47.390N, 89.744W in Lake Superior. At least one bow tank of the Michipicoten was compromised and was completely flooded. They began transiting to Thunder Bay, Ontario, escorted by the M/V Edwin H Gott, a 990' freighter. Non-essential crew have been removed from the ship.
