Recreational Vessel Hard Aground in Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary; Black River, MI

Initial Notification: On June 4, 2024, the Great Lakes SSC received a report from USCG Sector Northern Great Lakes of the M/V BJ's Enterprise, a 42' recreational vessel, aground near Black River, MI in the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. 300 gallons of fuel were reported aboard. No pollution was or has been observed. USCG requested to confirm the bottom type. SSC notified the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary Superintendent and Resource Protection Specialist of the grounding, confirmed the bottom type as rocky, and provided that information to USCG Sector Northern Great Lakes Incident Management Division. The vessel is expected to be removed by a local salvage operator. No further assistance requested at this time.
