Initial Notification: On June 1, 2024, the USCG Sector New York notified the NOAA SSC of a heavy fuel oil spill that occurred at Stapleton Anchorage, Staten Island, New York. The cause was equipment failure during a fuel transfer operation between the MV Crane, a bulk carrier, and a Vane Brothers Barge. Approximately 1,000 gallons of heavy fuel oil spilled into the Lower Bay of New York Harbor. The Sector requested a RAR and trajectory.
