Initial Notification: On the evening of 31-JAN-2024, USCG Pacific Area Command Center contacted the NOAA SSC for District 11 to request information in support of an overdue vessel report. A sailboat transiting from Los Angeles to Hawaii since roughly 28-DEC-2023 was reported overdue. As the specific route was unknown, USCG requested wind and sea state info over a large area of open ocean (in excess of one million square miles) from 28-DEC-2023 to 31-JAN-2024 to inform possible search efforts. The vessel later arrived safely, but substantially delayed, in Hawaii.
