Diesel fuel discharge from Navy destroyer, Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia

Initial Notification: On December 18, 2021, USCG Sector Virginia notified the NOAA SSC about a diesel fuel discharge that took place during a fuel transfer operation involving the USS BULKELEY ( a destroyer) at Naval Station Norfolk, VA. An estimated 2,000-3,000 gallons of diesel fuel was discharged into Chesapeake Bay, Virginia. Discharged has been secured and active and passive recovery operations are being employed.
