Initial Notification: On October 4, 2020, NOAA ERD opened this Hotline to capture information regarding a potential spill in the Kamchatka region of the Russian Federation. Pollution was reported in the coastal zone near Khalaktyrsky beach, where, according to local residents, a massive stranding of sea animals was seen on the shore. Later, phenol and oil products were identified in three more areas of the Avachinsky Bay in the Kamchatka region. At this time, U.S. agencies have not been activated and there are no known impacts to U.S. waters. Information only.
