Initial Notification: On Sunday afternoon, 26 July 2009, NOAA was notified of an oil spill 33 miles offshore and 60 miles southwest of Houma, LA that occurred on Saturday afternoon. The leak was from the Eugene Island Pipeline System and approximately 63,000 gallons of oil was released. Pre-approved dispersant was applied to the heaviest concentrations of the spill. On water recovery was also initiated. NOAA is providing on-going trajectory and weather support.
