Fire aboard the M/V Cuyahoga; Port of Ashtabula, OH

Initial Notification: On March 15, 2024, the SSC was notified of a fire aboard the M/V Cuyahoga in the Port of Ashtabula by USCG STA Fairport Harbor. The vessel is in winter layup and has no cargo on board. A safety zone was established and floating boom was deployed around the vessel. Ashtabula Fire Department was OSC and combatted the fire which is reported extinguished. Ashtabula Fire Department stated the fire started in the cargo hold. There are no reports of hull failure, no observed pollution, and no stability issues expected from the amount of water used combatting the fire. Foam was not used, but the F-500 Encapsulator Agent was reported to be mixed into the firefighting water.
