Initial Notification: On March 14, the Great Lakes SSC contacted the New England SSC and requested support on a RRT 7 call regarding a liquid nitrogen spill in Red Oak, Iowa. On March 11, EPA R7 received a call from the NRC reporting a release of 1,500 tons (~265,000 gallons) of liquid nitrogen fertilizer (32% solution) from a tank at a New COOP facility in Red Oak, Iowa. The release occurred over night on March 10, 2024. The release traveled down a ditch, through a culvert in a USACE levee, and then down the ditch into the East Nishnabotna River.
